Taxpayers begin to subsidize golf course

In 2011, subsidy is about $ 115,000. It does not include the town borrowed $ 200,000 cost of capital.

In 2012, taxpayers will contribute about $ 1.60 for every golfer Tee in Riverside or Blackhawk, two public courses in the city.

Jay Winzenz, Assistant City Manager, said the need for subsidies stemming from the lack of golfers are caused by the economic downturn and increased competition from the growing number of courses.

“We’ve been very fortunate in the last 25 plus years residents have been able to reap the benefits of Janesville has a golf course with no to subsidize them at all,” said Winzenz. “We happen to be in a position where the economy has changed, and the golf market has changed.”
